What Are Packaged Bank Accounts?
Packaged Bank Accounts are current accounts that come with extra features bundled together, from breakdown cover to phone and travel insurance. These accounts sometimes have names such as reward or premium accounts and the customer pays a monthly fee. Sadly, it seems that while these accounts can be really useful and good value for some, they were frequently mis-sold with many not needing the insurance cover or even being unaware they had the services included.
Which banks were involved?
Figures from the ombudsman show that it is receiving around 1,000 complaints per week from customers who feel they were mis-sold a Packaged Bank Account, which shows how serious the problem is.
Most high street banks have been implicated in the scandal. See a full list of banks here.
Was I mis-sold a Packaged Bank Account?
Think back to when you took the account out - did the bank give you a choice about having the packaged account and did they make the cost clear? Did they check it was right for you and your personal circumstances? Did you use any of the features included on the account or could you have used them? Were you pressured into getting the account and were you aware that you had the choice to take out a free account with no charges?
Can I reclaim the PBA fees?
Whether you still have the account or have since changed banks or type of account, you may be eligible to claim back the fees if the account was incorrectly sold. Did any of the following statements apply when you took out the packaged bank account?
